On November 26, 2024, a full-day training course on the “Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)” took place at CSZ in Darmstadt. The event, conducted by BIMotion GmbH and organized by Oliver Voß on behalf of CSZ, was aimed at engineers working in digital construction processes and software solutions.

CSZ focuses on digital efficiency: the importance of training
The Autodesk Construction Cloud offers CSZ a valuable opportunity to significantly increase the efficiency and structure of our processes and digital collaboration. Especially in the context of BIM and the use of a Common Data Environment (CDE), efficient collaboration with external partners is becoming increasingly essential. The training provided practical application examples of how we can use the Autodesk Construction Cloud in future projects.

Key learnings: More efficiency and smarter collaboration with the Autodesk Construction Cloud
During the training, participants gained valuable insights into the structure and functionality of the platform. They were shown how the software can be adapted to the specific needs of CSZ and which modules are necessary for us.

A key point was efficient collaboration with external partners. The participants learned how to efficiently exchange BIM models in accordance with ISO 19650 via the Autodesk Construction Cloud. Two new projects are already being set up on the platform to further optimize data exchange.

Outlook: The digital transformation at CSZ – in the fast lane 
With the introduction of the Autodesk Construction Cloud, CSZ is taking an important step towards digital transformation. The training not only strengthened the technical understanding of the platform, but also the awareness of a standardized data environment.

The sports center on Jahnstraße in Eschweiler, consisting of a multi-sports hall and an indoor swimming pool, was so badly damaged by the floods in July 2021 that it had to be demolished and rebuilt.

Space program with future prospects
In 2023, the city decided on a modern space program that comprehensively takes the requirements of future users into account. It includes:

• A main pool and a separate non-swimmers’ pool,
• A paddling pool with water slide, toddler pool and water play equipment,
• An optimized sports hall that can be divided into three sections,
• Changing rooms, technical areas and rooms for competitions and clubs.

The new sports center will thus offer both athletes and families a contemporary and functional environment.

Winning design: functionality and aesthetics combined
The general planning competition attracted 15 office consortia. The winning design was submitted by a+r Generalplanung GmbH (Stuttgart), Faktorgrün Landschaftsarchitekten (Freiburg) and CSZ Ingenieurconsult TA GmbH & Co KG (Berlin) as well as CSZ Ingenieurconsult GmbH & Co. KG (Dresden) for the structural design. The winning design impresses with its successful combination of functionality, sophisticated architecture and harmonious integration into the urban environment. It sets standards for future-oriented sports and leisure facilities.

Schedule and outlook
Construction is scheduled to start at the end of 2027 or beginning of 2028, with a construction period of two to three years. Commissioning is scheduled for the second half of 2030. The technically demanding demolition of the existing buildings will be closely coordinated with the new construction in order to keep costs and timeframes under control.

This project impressively demonstrates how sustainable solutions for urban infrastructure can be created through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative planning. CSZ is proud to be part of the winning team on this pioneering project.
