The official groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a project that will strengthen sports, culture, and community in Schöllkrippen in the long term. Together with Mayor Marc Babo, representatives of the municipality, and the planning partners, the foundation stone for the new culture and sports hall was laid.

The hall will offer space for up to 800 people and will become a central meeting place for club activities, school and sports activities, and cultural events. Around 70 clubs, numerous students, and the entire community will benefit from the new infrastructure. The adjacent middle school also actively uses the hall for physical education classes.

CSZ Ingenieurconsult Bauphysik GmbH & Co. KG is responsible for the complete range of services for thermal, sound, and room acoustics. In addition, special services such as an airtightness concept and a sound emission forecast are being implemented. The result is a building that is not only functional, but also energy-efficient, acoustically high-quality, and comfortable for all users.

Mid-November, a cold evening – but the atmosphere was warm: over 100 guests stood in front of the shell of the new extension to the fire station in Eppelheim, which was illuminated by blue and red LED lights. The marching band of the volunteer fire department lent the topping-out ceremony a festive atmosphere in which tradition and modernity came together harmoniously.
Commander Christoph Horsch thanked the dedicated firefighters, the city administration, and the Ecker architectural firm for their excellent cooperation. Mayor Matthias Kutsch emphasized the indispensable role of the volunteer fire department and assured the city’s support even in times of tight budgets.

The highlight of the evening was the traditional topping-out speech by Andreas Scheuermann (Altenbach company) from the scaffolding. The smashing of the wine glass not only marked the completion of the shell construction phase, but also wished good luck and protection for the construction project and its future users.
While the guests ended the evening with mulled wine and sausages, work continues in the background: Renovation work in the basement of the existing building will start in January, and the extension will be completed at the same time.

CSZ was responsible for structural design in this project and looks forward to continuing its good cooperation with all parties involved.

Kaiserslautern City Hall – an 84-meter-high skyscraper from the 1960s and an important work by architect Roland Ostertag – is a listed symbol of urban reconstruction and modern administration. Comprehensive renovation is essential to restore this building to its original splendor while meeting the requirements of a sustainable administration.

The first step toward renovation
CSZ has taken the crucial first step with its current inventory analysis: the systematic recording, evaluation, and documentation of the entire structural and technical substance. This step is much more than a mandatory task—it is the cornerstone for every further planning and renovation decision.

All areas examined – all potential identified
The analysis covers all key specialist disciplines:

• Building Services: Evaluation of outdated plant technology and derivation of sustainable modernization concepts.
• Fire protection: Examination of safety-relevant structures in a 26-story high-rise building in accordance with current requirements.
• Building physics & diagnostics: Examination of facades, concrete components, and energy-related weak points.
• Structural engineering: Derivation of potential for modern working environments and efficient administrative structures.

Early detection, sustainable planning
In a listed high-rise building in particular, it is crucial to take stock of the situation in order to identify opportunities, risks, and dependencies at an early stage. Only on the basis of reliable data can viable concepts for sustainability, energy efficiency, and long-term value retention be developed.

This year, our Christmas party took us to a special venue: the Comedy Hall in Darmstadt – an experience that uniquely combines culture, cuisine, and shared laughter. Around 100 colleagues from Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Munich, and Münster enjoyed an evening full of cheerfulness, good conversation, and unforgettable moments.

The program was a special mix: humorous puppet shows in the Hessian dialect, accompanied by delicious food and drinks, served at cozy tables scattered throughout the room. This combination immediately created a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere – in keeping with the Comedy Hall’s motto: “Fresh, cheeky, cheerful, free.”

A big thank you to everyone who made the evening possible – from the company management to the organizers to all the participants.

Moments like these show what CSZ stands for: team spirit and appreciative encounters across all locations and positions. A wonderful end to the year – full of laughter, good cheer, and a sense of community.

CSZ Darmstadt is colorful and diverse—around 20 of our colleagues come from different countries. Almost 15% of our workforce represent international flags – which means exciting cultures, inspiring stories, and, of course, lots of culinary highlights!

To celebrate this diversity together, we launched International Food & Drinks Day. In November we embarked on a culinary world tour: from the Middle East to Africa and Europe to Asia, colleagues brought typical dishes from their home countries—including Jordan, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Morocco, France, Poland, Bulgaria, and the Philippines.

The day provided the perfect opportunity for cultural exchange, new taste experiences, and team building. Colleagues sampled exotic flavors, discovered new spices, and found inspiration in a relaxed atmosphere—a lunch full of fun, discoveries, and encounters that showed how enriching shared experiences can be.

We are grateful for this wonderful diversity that enriches our everyday work – and we are already looking forward to the next culinary world tour at CSZ!

Building culture connects people – and that was precisely the focus of the annual meeting of the Middle Rhine Association of Architects and Engineers (MAIV) in Darmstadt. For over 150 years, the association has been bringing together people who are passionate about designing, planning, and building. Building and construction site tours, professional meetings, trips, and joint celebrations bring the network to life and make it tangible.

CSZ is actively involved in this lively exchange: Mr. Cornelius, managing partner of the CSZ Group, has been volunteering for years and is currently vice-chairman of MAIV Darmstadt. As a new member, Mr. Pister, CSZ Structural Managing Engineer, also presented current projects in the opening speech at the annual closing event at the Achzehn98 Restaurant & BeachClub. It was a perfect opportunity to combine professional impressions with personal encounters.

More than just traffic flows beneath the road
Anyone driving along the B 460 in Heppenheim rarely suspects the complex infrastructure hidden directly beneath the asphalt. Around 14,000 vehicles roll along here every day – cars, trucks, commuters, life. But underground, an invisible lifeline of the city is at work: the Stadtbach stream, enclosed in a culvert that is now reaching its limits.

Between city center, history, and engineering
In the heart of Heppenheim, cramped urban conditions, historic buildings, and modern requirements come together.The challenge: a 614-meter section, a vaulted structure over 100 years old, and a reinforced concrete frame from 1968 – all under ongoing traffic and with limited space for diversions.

How to rethink a structure while it remains in use
CSZ is responsible for the object and structural design for the renewal of the culvert—including the reorganization of road drainage, integration of a pre-treatment plant, diversion of the city stream during the construction period, and hydrological design for HQ100 (12 m³/s). The principle here is: only as much closure as necessary, as much renewal as possible.

A construction site in the middle of life
The inner-city location makes construction logistics an engineering feat in itself. Access roads for residents, emergency services, and hotel guests, some via auxiliary bridges, will be maintained. And to protect local residents, we are using low-emission methods—technology that shows consideration.

Sustainability begins beneath the surface
What is being created here is more than just a building: it is an example of resilient infrastructure – permanently sustainable, safe in the event of flooding, and ecologically well thought out. Together with all parties involved, we are planning a solution that protects both Heppenheim’s traffic and its waterways.

A strong plan for Heppenheim
CSZ won the VgV competition for this challenging project – and is delighted to be making one of southern Hesse’s central transport axes fit for the future. A project that shows how engineering, sustainability, and urban development go hand in hand.
