From the outset, the city of Düren has been committed to certifiable quality in accordance with the DGNB standard for the new construction of its main fire station. This is no coincidence. It is a stance.

The doors are open for the little forest sprites
The new daycare center “Henry’s Little Forest Elves” on Magdeburger Straße in Pohlheim was presented to the public at the end of February during an open house. Ms. Gülcan Subasi, managing director of CSZ Ingenieurconsult Bauphysik GmbH & Co. KG, was on site for the opening. The daycare center was officially opened with the symbolic handover of keys by Mayor Andreas Ruck to Christian Betz, Chairman of the Marburg-Gießen district association of the German Red Cross. It offers space for up to 125 children in several group areas.

Modern timber construction with sustainable technology
The single-story new building, constructed using solid timber, covers around 1,400 m². Bright group rooms, quiet areas, and spacious play corridors create a modern and functional environment for everyday life at the daycare center. The facilities are complemented by a multifunctional and exercise room, which can also be used by Pohlheim clubs. The building is equipped with a photovoltaic system and air-to-water heat pumps, combining sustainable construction with modern building technology.

CSZ took over specialist planning
CSZ took over specialist planning for structural design, building physics, and fire protection in the project, thereby supporting key engineering aspects of the new building. We are delighted to have used our planning expertise to lay the foundations for creative play, learning, and discovery—and wish the “little forest elves” a great start in their new premises.

At the end of January, CSZ celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new Elsa Brändström Secondary School together with everyone involved in the project. The new building on the grounds of the Emslandstadion comprises a six-stream secondary school with a triple sports hall and is taking shape with its characteristic flower-shaped architecture. The traditional topping-out speech was given in the presence of Mayor Dr. Peter Lüttmann, Barbara Kummer from the municipal building management department, school principal Yvonne Sundermann, representatives of the construction companies, and the JSWD team.

JSWD’s design is based on a flower-shaped floor plan. The auditorium, cafeteria, self-study center, and all-day areas are grouped around a central school foyer. The classrooms and specialist rooms are arranged along the outer facades, while learning islands and recreation areas face the inner courtyards. This creates flexible learning and recreation areas for students.

CSZ Structural Design: Stable. Durable. Efficient.
CSZ is proud to have been responsible for the structural design of this school project and to be working with all project participants to advance the implementation of this sustainable school building.
