CSZ-Building Physics: The Ernst Reuter School in Frankfurt on the way to a modern learning environment
The Ernst Reuter School in Frankfurt’s Nordweststadt district is about to undergo extensive modernization. As an integrated comprehensive school with inclusive teaching and an upper secondary school, it urgently needs to be renovated and extended due to rising pupil numbers and new educational concepts.
CSZ was commissioned with the planning of the building physics, which includes a wide range of services: thermal building physics, building acoustics, room acoustics, sound immission, thermal insulation, sound insulation and sound immission forecasts. CSZ-Building Physics is currently in the decisive service phase 3, in which detailed planning and calculations are carried out in order to meet the highest standards.
The aim of the refurbishment and extension of the school is to adapt the buildings to modern requirements for free and flexible learning. This includes a core refurbishment in line with listed buildings as well as adaptations to current pedagogical and structural standards. There are also plans to build a new classroom wing, several halls, an indoor swimming pool and multifunctional buildings such as a canteen, assembly hall, media library, self-learning center and specialist rooms for science lessons.
It is particularly noteworthy that the school ensemble, designed by architect Franz Schuster in 1961, was listed in 2020. The school was designed from the outset as a model and experimental school and is now considered a pioneer of the comprehensive school concept.
This project, which includes the renovation and extension of the existing buildings as well as new buildings, is an outstanding example of the future-oriented development of school buildings. CSZ is proud to contribute its expertise in building physics and is grateful for the excellent cooperation. We will keep you informed of further progress.
